WHO holds health coverage workshop for parliamentarians

A universal health coverage orientation workshop for parliamentarians is being held at the Dead Sea, a World Health Organisation (WHO) statement said.

Titled “Strengthening Health Systems for Achieving Universal Health Coverage and Health Related Sustainable Development Goals” and held under the patronage of Health Minister Mahmoud Al Sheyyab, the August 2-3 workshop aims to discuss global and national developments of the universal health coverage and health Sustainable Development Goals in addition to the role of parliamentarians in the process, according to the statement.

WHO Representative to Jordan Maria Cristina Profili noted that Jordan has committed to “the 2030 Agenda and to leaving no one behind”.

In this regard, both the “Jordan 2025”, developed in 2015, and the Executive Development Programme, are in harmony with the SDG, the statement said. Jordan has also pledged to prepare its first Voluntary National Review which was presented at the High Level Political Forum in the July 2017 session. Italy’s deputy minister of health also attended the workshop.
