Senate finance panel starts debate of banking bill

The Senate's Finance and Economic Committee on Tuesday opened a debate of the amended 2015 banking draft law in a meeting attended by the Central Bank governor and the president of the Legislation and Opinion Bureau.

Senator Rajai Al-Muasher, who chaired the meeting, said that the law aims to 'rectify the loopholes' in banking functions, regulate bank capital ownership, enable the Central Bank to take measures to address the situation of troubled banks and achieve financial stability in the banking sector.

The panel will on Wednesday continue the discussion of the bill, which was passed by the Lower House.
