MICE tourism is the main engine for the tourism sector development: Annab

Amman, Oct. 3 (Petra)- Tourism and Antiquities Minister Lina Annab said the meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE) tourism has developed rapidly, and has become a major engine for the development of the tourism sector and an important source of income, employment and investment.

The MICE industry demonstrated today its ability to generate a higher level of spending, reduce seasonal factors, and contribute to the revival of tourist destinations, Annab told participants in the Middle East International Meetings Forum '2018', which was held in cooperation with the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) and Jordan Tourism Board (JTB).

Annab said the establishment of the ICCA) aims to assess the practical ways of involving the travel industry in the rapidly expanding international meeting market, and noted overcoming challenges is part of the responsibility of stakeholders in the tourism sector to create new opportunities.

On the local level, Annab said the MICE industry is one of the main sectors that will help achieve the goal of doubling tourism revenues in the next five years, and noted 'we have adopted a demand-driven approach and have started to establish a dedicated conference office at the Jordan Tourism Board.'

This forum is designed to raise awareness about the value of holding international meetings in Jordan as well as in the wider Middle Eastern region, its benefits for venues, PCO/DMCs and other suppliers across Jordan. It is especially aimed at meetings industry suppliers (hotels, venues, DMCs, PCOs etc.) in Jordan and the Middle East in order to provide a unique opportunity to learn from leading experts in the international meetings industry.
