JIEC to install renewable energy systems in industrial cities

Amman, Dec. 18 (Petra) -- Jordan Industrial Estates Co. (JIEC) is considering the installation of renewable energy systems in the established and under-construction industrial estates to provide better services to investors, according to its CEO Omar Jwaid.

He told investors in Al Muwaqar Industrial Estate that the company is seeking to reduce the energy cost and use the money saved to further enhance the services and infrastructure of the other industrial estates in Sahab, Irbid, Al Muwaqar and Karak, the JIEC said in a statement on Tuesday.

Jwaid stressed the industrial estates' commitment to reducing energy cost for industrialists, adding that the company has the approval for a project to generate low-priced energy for industries on land it owns in Al Hasa. He predicted that measures to carry out the project will get under way next year.

The estate's investors underscored the importance of cooperating with all official and private sectors to serve industrial investment in 'this promising estate' that almost includes 95 investments in all fields and provided over 3310 job opportunities, stressing that they will continue putting in efforts to strengthen the estate.

JIEC has recently started work on the second development phase of the Al Muwaqar Industrial Estate infrastructure, including roads and pavements at a cost of JD2.5 million.
