Inflation slightly in first 8 months of 2019

Amman, Sept. 11 (Petra) -- The Consumer Price Index, a measure of inflation, inched up by a slight 0.4 percent in the first eight months of the current year (2019), according to official data.

The increase was attributed to rising prices of rents by 0.39 percent; vegetables and dry and canned legumes by 0.27 percent; cereals by 0.22 percent; education 0.09 percent and culture and entertainment by 0.03 percent, the figures by the Department of Statistics revealed.

Commodity groups that saw their prices declining included meat, poultry, dairy products and eggs by 0.16 per cent while transportation and tobacco products by 0.19 and 0.08 per cent, respectively.
