CARC on high alert to prevent coronavirus spreading

Amman, Feb. 26 (Petra) -- The Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) has intensified its precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus through flights, CARC Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Haitham Mesto said on Wednesday.

In an interview with 'Petra', Mesto added that Commission is closely following developments and all smallest details related to the new virus, mainly in air transport sector, pointing to the Kingdom's commitment to international standards in terms of aviation safety and security to maintain passengers' health and prevent communicable diseases spreading via air.

The authority is moving on various levels to combat the virus through continuous communication and coordination with internal and external bodies, including the International Civil Aviation Organization and the World Health Organization, he noted.

The CARC, Mesto stressed, oversees the effective measures taken to avoid the spread of infectious diseases that are transmitted by aviation as it continuously communicates with air operators to commit reporting any disease case, and abide by the issued decisions to prevent accompanying any passenger from the suspected countries of spreading these communicable diseases.

He also highlighted that the commission held a number of activities and conferences aimed at introducing communicable diseases and spreading the culture of infection prevention since the beginning of winter season.

'Such measures taken by the CARC in air transport areas are a continuous approach and an international commitment of the authority towards member states in agreements governing civil aviation' he indicated.
