British-Jordanian designer Hasan Hejazi recreates Caroline Flack dress and donates profit to mental health charity

Profits of a dress, originally worn by the late presenter, will be donated to the health charity Mind

British-Jordanian designer Hasan Hejazi has recreated a dress worn by late television presenter Caroline Flack, and he is donating the profits to English and Welsh mental health charity, Mind.

Flack wore an orange version of the Hasan Hejazi playsuit and skirt design for the British National Television Awards in January 2019. As a tribute to the late star, Hejazi has announced that he is remaking the piece in a new colour and naming it the Caroline dress. He is selling the dress for £250 (Dh1,180) and donating around £100 (Dh470) of profit from each dress to charity.

'As a tribute to Caroline Flack I will be remaking this dress in a new colour. Launching tomorrow [February 28] the 'Caroline' dress with be available exclusively from my website for a short time only. All profits (approx £100 per dress) will be donated to Mind Charity, a charity who provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem,' Hejazi wrote on Instagram.

Caroline wore this dress in January 2019 for the National Television awards. I was so happy that she had chosen to wear one of my designs for such a big event and so beautifully, for a independent designer like me it’s a huge deal,' he added.

'I never had the pleasure of meeting Caroline in person but still I feel heartbroken and shocked like so many of us do that we have lost such a bright star. I really hope that we can all learn lessons in how to treat others and create a safer and happier place for us all to live. Please #BEKIND'.

The dressed has been recreated in pink, the colour of the lining of the gown Flack wore.

Laura Whitmore, a friend of Flack's who took her place presenting Love Island, has endorsed the tribute.

Posting on her Instagram story, Whitmore wrote: 'My mate Hasan Hejazi made a pink dress of the version Caroline wore with profits going to Mind. She then shared the order confirmation, having picked up a version of the dress for herself.

According to Hejazi's website, customers can expect delivery of their Caroline dress in early April.

Flack, the former host of hit British TV show Love Island, died at the age of 40, on Saturday, February 15. She was found dead in her London flat and had taken her own life.

Who is Hasan Hejazi?

A half-British, half-Jordanian designer, Manchester-born Hejazi trained at London College of Fashion and has become a celebrity favourite, with the likes of Jourdan Dunn, Jacqueline Fernandez, Eva Longoria, Kylie Minogue and Nicole Scherzinger all sporting his designs.

In a 2017 interview with Grazia magazine, he said of his heritage: 'Maybe my use of classic shapes, bold colours and metallic fabrics comes from my Jordanian blood, and then [it's] mixed with a more contemporary influence from my British side.'
