Shweikeh, former ministers discuss religious tourism

AMMAN — Tourism Minister Majd Shweikeh on Monday discussed means to develop religious tourism through institutionalising joint action to build up on previous achievements with former tourism ministers and stakeholders.

Shweikeh directed the stakeholders to form a steering committee on religious tourism to bring all relevant agencies under one umbrella to provide accurate information about religious routes, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

For his part, Jordan Tourism Board Director General Abdul Razzaq Arabiyyat reviewed obstacles that faced the religious tourism sector in the past, such as the price of tickets from Europe to Jordan.

He also added that the JTB had managed to identify shortcomings and with the cooperation of stakeholders had presented remedial measures.
