Hamza oil field being rehabilitated to raise production, announces energy minister

Amman, August 26 (Petra)-Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Hala Zawati, said rehabilitation work at Hamzah oil field in Al Azraq is 'ongoing,' with the aim of increasing the production capacity in four active wells from 10 barrels per day to more than 400 barrels.
In a press statement to 'Petra,' she said the rehabilitation processes in the field, which include three stages, has revealed an 'important' development in increasing oil production in the site.
Next year will witness digging new wells to increase production quantities, according to the minister.
Since 2018, the ministry has been working on testing wells to increase production from Hamza oil field, and to study the seven sites eligible for oil production in the Kingdom, said Zawati.
Zawati highlighted the government's interest in oil and gas exploration, which contributes to efforts to achieve energy security, which is a pillar of the energy strategy recently launched by the ministry, dubbed: 'Self-reliance and Increasing Domestic Oil Production'.
Discovered in 1984, Hamza oil field's cumulative production has reached nearly 1 million barrels so far, while its current output went down to about 10 barrels per day, a decline attributed to lack of maintenance operations over 30 years ago.
