    Gov't vows to support Audit Bureau in protecting public money

    Amman, Oct. 19 (Petra) -- The Government is keen on protecting the public money and 'fully committed' to the role given to the Audit Bureau in accordance with the constitution and pertinent laws, Prime Minister Bishr Khasawneh said Monday.

    Khasawneh said that the government is fully cooperative with the Bureau and will provide whatever information to the Bureau in due time without delays in order to address any issues or uncover any corruption-related cases to achieve justice.

    He added that the government and all public institutions are accountable to the audit bodies, in addition to legislative and political audit practiced by the parliament overseeing the work of the executive branch comport with the constitution.

    The premier made his remarks during a visit to the Audit Bureau where he met its president Asem Haddad.

    He highlighted that he chose to make the audit bodies the first stops of his field visits to underscore the importance of their role in protecting the public money and prevent malpractices.

    He vowed that the government, under His Majesty King Abdullah II's directives stipulated in the Assignment Letter, will fully cooperate with the audit authorities to set a model on how senior public servant should behave as they should adopt an approach based on transparency and the respect fo the rule of law. He stressed the government's unflagging support of the audit authorities role.

    In turn, Haddad briefed Khasawneh on the Bureau's program to develop and automate their work according to the best practices and to keep abreast of the latest technological breakthroughs.

    He said that, at the end of September, the saved-money accrued from auditing and monitoring stood at 89.467 million.
