Amman, Nov. 29 (Petra)- Vice Chairman of the Himmat Watan Fund, (meaning 'a nation's effort'), Jamal Sarayreh, has announced on Sunday, the approval of Prime Minister, Dr. Bishr Khasawneh, on its recommendation to allocate an amount of JD10 million to purchase medical equipment and supplies, equip field hospitals, and conclude the necessary agreements to admit patients into private sector hospitals.
Sarayreh said the amount will support efforts of the Ministry of Health and its medical and nursing staff to provide the necessary health care to patients infected with Covid-19, especially after the increasing number of domestic infections have exceeded capacities of government hospitals.
According to Sarayreh, the total donations, which the fund has so far received, have reached JD94.2 million, of which JD92.6 million were paid to help counter the Covid-19 pandemic.
JD73 million were paid to the National Aid Fund, JD4.2 million to the Ministry of Health to provide a PCR device and coronavirus testing kits, JD2 million for Tkiyet Um Ali (charity body), and JD1 million for the Jordanian Hashemite Charitable Organization, said Sarayreh.
An amount of JD2 million has also been allocated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support 'a safe return program' for Jordanians abroad, in addition to JD433,000 for the University of Jordan Hospital to provide ventilators and dialysis devices, and finally JD10 million was disbursed to buy devices and equipment for the Ministry of Health field hospitals, he pointed out.
The disbursement mechanism is 'clear, transparent and subject to oversight,' as the main donation account management committee reviews periodic reports on spending aspects, Sarayreh pointed out.
