CBJ warns against fraudulent lending companies
Amman, Feb. 9 (Petra) - The Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) Tuesday warned against companies claiming they offer facilities to access loans from banks and financial companies in return for non-refundable commissions.
In a statement on Tuesday, the bank stated that a number of people and companies have been promoting advertisements on social media sites claiming that they facilitate citizens' access to loans, warning that such persons and companies 'deceive citizens to collect sums of money without providing any services.'
The safe and correct way to obtain a loan, the statement added, is by consulting a bank or microfinance company licensed by the Central Bank, in addition to financial leasing companies and financing companies licensed by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply that grant loans directly, noting that the these banks and companies are allowed to grant credit in accordance with the credit policies approved by their boards.
The Central Bank said citizens can learn about licensed banks and microfinance companies by visiting its website www.cbj.gov.jo.
