    ASE participates in the UNEP FI Global Roundtable

    Amman, Oct. 25 (Petra)- The Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) , represented by its Executive Director, Mazen Wathaifi, has participated in the activities of the 16th Global Roundtable (GRT), entitled 'Financing a Resilient Future' which was organized by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP FI) held virtually.
    The global event went over the role of financing for sustainability projects that deal with governance, community service and environmental preservation in supporting the economy, crises management and growth promotion, according to a press GRT statement.
    Speaking during the panel discussion titled: ''Is the MENA Witnessing a Paradigm Shift in Sustainable Finance?', aimed to highlight the role of sustainable financing in reducing risks and promoting growth to achieve sustainable development in the Arab region, Wathaifi pointed to the region's 'increasing' knowledge of the concept of sustainability and the commitment of many regional companies to apply sustainability standards given their significance to enhance corporate transparency and performance.
    Referring to Jordan's success story in the field of renewable,and solar energy, he reviewed the ASE's experience in the field of propagating the rules of sustainability and awareness about them.
    In this context, he pointed to the ASE's pioneering steps in this field, indicating that the stock market has joined The UN Initiative for Sustainable Development, launched by the UN Secretary-General, in March of 2016, aimed to enhance transparency and achieve commitment of listed companies on the issues of social, environmental and governance responsibility.
    UNEP FI’s biennial Global Roundtable (GRT), a major global agenda-setting event on sustainable finance, brought together decision-makers, experts and thought leaders on a virtual event platform, and help shape approaches to integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues and accelerating sustainable banking, insurance and investment.
