Amman, Nov. 25 (Petra)- Minister of Water and Irrigation, Dr. Moatasem Saeedan, discussed on Wednesday, with the French Ambassador to Jordan, Veronique Volan, cooperation in water and sanitation projects and ways to enhance them in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the meeting, the minister announced new sanitation projects set to be implemented early next year, one of which aims to serve the northern border district of Ramtha and the Houran Plain areas at a value of 100 million euros.
The volume of French aid provided to the water sector by the French Development Agency (AFD) during 2019-2020 exceeded 400 million euros, to improve the water quality and sanitation services, he said, praising the French support provided to the Kingdom's water sector.
Stressing the ministry's continued keenness to enhance cooperation and benefit from French expertise in this regard, Saeedan reviewed the water sector's plan to secure new resources, and install a water pipeline adjacent to the King Abdullah Canal (KAC) to raise efficiency of irrigation and supply systems and protect assets under the umbrella of the Ministry of Agriculture.
For his part, the envoy appreciated the efforts made in the Kingdom's water sector to cope with the increasing water burden, stressing that the French government attaches the 'utmost' importance to the water sector and follows up on its achievements, especially with regard to projects seeking to address waste and sanitation, as they directly affect the citizens' lives.
