Petra)-- Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Nayef al-Fayez, on Friday, along with Minister of Public Works and Housing Yahya Kasbi, and President of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Nayef al-Bakhit checked first-hand on a number of projects in the port city of Aqaba.

The projects aimed at developing the Great Arab Revolt Square, the Aqaba Byzantium Church, and the Ayla archaeological site.
Al-Bakhit said that the rehabilitation project of the Great Arab Revolt Square will add 4,500 square meters of buildings, which contain a number of museums and various galleries that include Aqaba's historical and archaeological holdings and reflect the history and civilization of the city throughout the ages.

Earlier in the day, al-Fayez met in the city with a number of tourism sector representatives and discussed challenges facing the sector due to the novel coronavirus.

Commenting on the Risk Fund, al-Fayez said that the ministry is working on setting up a mechanism for the fund in the future to uplift the tourism sector in general.
