    School vaccination campaign resumes tomorrow

    January 24, 2022

(Petra) –– The Ministry of Education, in coordination with the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management and the Ministry of Health, resumes a campaign on Sunday for the vaccination of 972,400 students from seventh to 12th grade at public schools across the Kingdom.

Education Ministry Undersecretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs Najwa Qbeilat said the campaign targets students with parents' written approval for vaccination, now numbering 43,000, expecting the number to rise after the return on February 20 to in-class learning for the second semester.

Qbeilat told Petra in an interview that the ministry has designated 42 vaccination centres in its directorates, adding that education ministry and health ministry teams will jointly kick off the vaccination campaign under a programme that will be circulated to schools, students and parents.

She said that 172,445 students, 17.73 per cent of the target group, have received the first dose of the vaccine and 124,422, 12.7 per cent, have been double-jabbed in addition to 257 who got the third booster shot.

She said that 112,669 out of 134,000 Tawjihi (General Secondary Education Certificate) students have received the vaccine, with 66,888 taking the first dose, 45,652 the second and 129 the third.

The resumption of the school vaccination process is part of the ministry's keenness on the continuation of in-person education in the second semester based on the importance of vaccination to curb the spread of the coronavirus and mitigate infection, she stressed.

Qbeilat urged parents to encourage their children to receive the vaccine for their own safety and the safety of their colleagues and teachers, and to guarantee the continuation of in-class education in all of the Kingdom's schools.

The Ministry has earlier launched intensive awareness campaigns on health protocols and the need to take the vaccine ahead of the return to in-person learning.
