Tunis, May 16 (Petra) -- Jordanian journalists and representatives of travel agencies Monday arrived in Tunis, Tunisia, to discuss strengthening tourism cooperation between the two countries.

The visit, organised by the Tunisian National Office of Tourism in cooperation with Royal Jordanian (RJ), is aimed at networking between tourism offices and companies in Jordan and Tunisia to increase the number of intra-tourism and open new tourist destinations.

Tunisian Ambassador in Amman Khaled Suhail had met the Jordanian delegation before they set off for Tunisia and said the visit is part of wider efforts to develop bilateral relations, which have witnessed noticeable improvements, especially in political areas.

Suhail praised the cooperation by activating the many bilateral cooperation mechanisms, noting the commonalities that bring the two peoples closer.

He said that cooperation in tourism is very important and works to bring the two peoples together, adding that the number of Tunisian tourists to Jordan annually is estimated at around 7,000, and the number of Jordanians visiting Tunisia annually hovers around 7,000. He said the number must be increased.

Suhail indicated that visa requirements have been lifted for Jordanians and Tunisians, which will help support tourism.

He affirmed his appreciation for Jordan's stance, especially on the Palestinian cause, which reflects the official stances in support of the Arab nation.

RJ representative Imad Bakhit affirmed the Airline's keenness to cooperate with the Tunisians to promote intra-tourism, highlighting the role of RJ in promoting Jordan's tourism around the world.

Representatives of tourism and travel agencies participating in the visit stressed that it is an opportunity to explore Tunisia and to agree with their counterparts in Tunisia on cooperation, partnership and the opening of new tourist destinations.
