    Senate president, French counterpart discuss cooperation

    AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez on Thursday met with his French counterpart Gerard Larcher in Paris to discuss enhancing cooperation in parliamentary and economic areas.

    The meeting also covered means to increase joint investments and cooperation in overcoming the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

    Fayez commended the “deep-rooted” nature of Jordanian-French ties, noting that Jordan considers France a key partner in bringing about regional peace, further expressing keenness to build upon existing relations to best serve mutual interests and scaling up trade exchange.

    He also reviewed the Kingdom's political and economic reforms which aim to improve the investment climate.

    Fayez also highlighted the need to establish a French university in Jordan, a significant step in bolstering cultural ties.

    The French senate president commended the Kingdom's role in support of international efforts to end conflicts and fight terrorism in the region.

    Larcher noted that 'there is a spirit of positivity and common grounds between the two nations which would facilitate cooperation'.

    Through the French-Jordanian parliamentary friendship committees, the French senate will push to increase investments in Jordan and also take efforts to boost French tourism to Jordan and activate partnerships between both countries’ trade and industry chambers, Larcher added.

    He also expressed appreciation for Jordan's work to ensure that Syrian refugees, among others, a decent life in the Kingdom, emphasising the need to support the Kingdom’s humanitarian efforts in this area.
