AMMAN — Representatives of the trade, business and industrial sectors on Sunday affirmed that the Kingdom has achieved remarkable economic achievements during the reign of His Majesty King Abdullah, despite challenges facing the national economy, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Commemorating His Majesty King Abdullah’s birthday, which falls on Monday, January 30, they referred to His Majesty's continued directives to address challenges facing the Kingdom’s business environment and expedite the implementation of the Economic Modernisation Vision.

Head of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce Khalil Hajj Tawfiq said that the commercial and service sectors, which represent 70 per cent of Jordan’s GDP, have received “great attention and support” from His Majesty since King Abdullah assumed constitutional powers.

“The two sectors have grown significantly over the past two decades, with approximately 120,000 companies and institutions operating within the sectors’ scope and contributing to advancing economic activity,” he added.

Hajj Tawfiq highlighted the impact that the Royal vision and His Majesty’s directives have had on the performance of the national economy in general, and on the commercial and service sectors in particular.

In turn, Head of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry Fathi Jaghbir stressed that the Royal vision has supported the building of a “strong” national industry.

During His Majesty’s reign, Jordan’s industry, characterised by its high quality, manufacturing efficiency and modernity, has flourished, reaching global markets, he added.

Jaghbir stressed that with the support of His Majesty, the industrial sector is moving at a “steady and confident pace” towards achieving Jordanian industrial integration and increasing the volume of investments in the sector.
